Best Slasher Movies

The inbred, deformed psychos are back and still slaughtering in Wrong Turn 2: Dead End.

As with the first, the plot is a little on the lax side, but the overabundance of blood and guts makes it worth it. Also, there’s Henry Rollins (Dale) which gives it a boost of awesome.Kimberly Caldwell (of American Idol fame) plays an annoying reality show contestant which must’ve been a stretch for her.

This movie is delightful, but not for someone who wants something intellectually challenging – or even something requiring average intelligence, but hey, we’re talking about slasher movies here. Who really cares? Wrong Turn 2: Dead End is good fun and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Wrong Turn is standard slasher flick fare, but it accomplishes its goal admirably. It scares, it shocks and it delivers the blood. The killings are brutal and gory and the villains are grotesque and frightening. I’d have liked to see the setting be a little more creepy and ominous, but it serves its purpose.

Sure Wrong Turn might be a little lacking in the plot department, but, like porn, no one watches a slasher movie for the story. You pick a slasher movie for the blood and guts and Wrong Turn makes sure you’re not disappointed.

Aside from setting up why these kids (our inbred monsters’ victims) are in the woods in the first place, there is little in the way of plot or story development. Wrong Turn is what it is – three deranged, disfigured crazies  chasing down the hotties and hacking them up.

Saw V, ensures this series its place among the best slasher movies ever made.

With the Saw movies, it isn’t just the gore that pulls us in. We want to know about Jigsaw and we want to know about his victims. In this movie, we get what we want. We learn more about Jigsaw’s past as well as how the lives of the other characters intermingle. We find ourselves reunited with Detective Matthews and find out that maybe Jigsaw had more than the dearly departed Amanda to carry on in the event of his death.

Oh that opening scene! How delightfully graphic! Saw IV gets the gore going right away.

In the fourth installment of the Saw series, things are starting to get a little complicated. Are the cops in on it all and how long have they been involved? Well, I don’t need to tell you this is a must watch for all Saw fans. The movies are crossing over and each characters involvement in past events grows deeper and deeper. The blood and guts and brains and gore once again does not disappoint. You can always count on the Saw movies for a few good cringe-worthy deaths.

Saw III picks up where Saw II left off. Jigsaw has a protege and just in time, it would appear, as Jigsaw is a little worse for the wear. He has brain cancer and it on his way out. Young Amanda is to carry on with his work when he is gone, although it appears she doesn’t quite get what Jigsaw had in mind.

Saw III is loaded with more twists and turns than the first two in the series but it maintains the level or gore that fans of Saw have come to expect. The traps are twisted and elaborate and the blood is still flowing as the body count grows and grows. Yet another reason the Saw series is featured on Best Slasher Movies.

Saw II is the admirable sequel to 2004’s Saw (also available to view right here at Best Slasher Movies) and picks up the gore right where it’s predecessor left off.

Saw II opens with one of the best opening scenes I’ve ever seen in a slasher movie as a man has the option of gouging out his own eye to save his life or face death by the Venus fly-trap like device around his neck. From there the blood continues to rain.

Perhaps more suspenseful than the first, Saw II continues with Jigsaw’s creative and brutal booby traps that intend to show their victim’s they are doing things in life they need to be punished for. As always, the salvation is always within reach if they look for it. No one ever does – well, expect that one girl. Watch the movie. You’ll know who I mean.

Oh Saw… what can be said about Saw? One of the best slasher movies ever made? Yes. One of the best movie villians of all time? Yes. Original premise and great script? For sure. And then… there’s the gore.

Saw is the first in this five part series that started to bring gore into the mainstream. There was no shortage of blood spilled in this series, and a lot of that was shed in the first installment. Now, the thing that makes this movie so great isn’t just the gore, it’s the fact that the gore is so creative. For that alone, Saw gets my vote for one of the best slasher films ever made.
