The Last House on the Left (2009)

Much less sadistic and violent than the 1972 version, The Last House on the Left still provides plenty of blood and guts to keep its twisted audience happy.

Aside from the name, and the names of a few of the characters, The Last House on the Left of 2009 has little in common with its 1972 predecessor. This is a movie that definitely stands on its own – which can’t be said for many remakes.

Perhaps the movies does tone down a few of the more sadistic aspects of its namesake, but it does so without losing any of the true horror the first movie provided. There are many genuinely scary and disturbing moments and a few surprises along the way. Worth watching at the very least.

My Bloody Valentine (2009)

What’s better than gore? Why, 3-D gore of course – and My Bloody Valentine has plenty of that. What else does it have? Honestly, not much. The story isn’t bad and the writing is decent, but the bloodshed is truly what makes this movie one of the Best Slasher Movie ever made.

My Bloody Valentine has everything you expect from a Slasher Movie. Everyone dies that you expect to die. There’s full frontal female nudity. There are people rushing into buildings they shouldn’t run into and the always necessary scene where the frightened hot girl is running through an endless stream of obstacles while the killer pursues her only a few feet away. Classic slasher movie stuff. Old cliches? More like old friends. If a slasher flick ended and you hadn’t screamed at the TV at least once because someone did something stupid, you’d feel like something was missing.

Halloween (2007)

This Halloween remake by none other than Rob Zombie may well be one of the best slasher movies ever made. Not content to just make the movie all blood and guts, Zombie tries to get inside the mind of Michael Myers and explain why the little boy wearing the clown mask at the beginning of the movie turns out to be a psychopathic killer. That isn’t to say, though, there is a shortage of the red stuff.

The killings are brutal and the gore doesn’t disappoint. The age old theory that having sex or using drugs as a teenager is bound to get you killed is proved time and again, but Halloween is more than a slasher flick under Zombie’s helm. It has an actual story.

Friday The 13th (2008)

The first movie in this legendary series, Friday the 13th, is remade for a whole new audience of blood-lusters – and the movie does not disappoint. From the first severed head within moments of the movie’s open, the blood doesn’t stop flowing.

Watch as the young, pretty people are taught yet again why it’s so important to listen to those stories you hear around the campfire and never, ever break the rules of horror movies. Drugs and sex get you murdered by homicidal maniacs. When will they learn? Hopefully never – then what would be watch. Friday the 13th stabs and gouges the lesson home again and again.
