Dorothy Mills takes its time getting going, but the payoff is a great movie that doesn’t spend all its time on scares and blood. It makes sure you care about who is bleeding and you’re not just scared because something jumps out of the dark and catches you off guard. You’re scared because you care what happens to the people you’ve grown attached to over the course of the movie.

Probably the best thing about Dorothy Mills is it doesn’t cheap out in the end and give you the ending you were expecting. When they try to explain everything that happened in the movie, its well done and doesn’t seem rushed or pulled together. The plot twists are genuinely surprising and the acting is solid – all for less than a million dollars. Not bad at all.

Quick Review: If you’re looking for an edge of your seat thriller from start to finish, Dorothy Mills isn’t the movie for you. Give it a chance though and accept that things are a little slow to start. The reward for your patience is well worth it.

Dorothy Mills

Zombie X is your basic first person shooter, but the graphics are fun and it’s a little challenging. Fire with the mouse and reload with space. Another good time killer.

It’s a simple game to play. You aim and fire with your mouse, move with either the ‘w’, ‘a’, ’s’ and ‘d’ keys or the arrow keys. Change your weapon with ‘q’. The weapons are awesome – an AK-47, mini-sub machine and a rocket launcher. My only real complaint with the game is it’s a little too easy, but all in all, a fun game.

Play Zombie Avenger now. Kill some zombies and a little time.

If you go into a movie with a name like Yeti: The Curse of the Snow Demon looking for a serious, intense watch and then cry that it’s stupid, well, you might want to reconsider what is stupid in this scenario. I couldn’t be more serious about that. This movie screams ridiculous from the title alone. You can rip apart the plot like the Yeti rips apart its victims, but what’s the point? If you spend the entire movie saying, “That wouldn’t happen because…” and “Why wouldn’t they just…” you’re thinking too hard. Stop.

Quick Review: Yeti: The Curse of the Snow Demon… the title tells you exactly what you get. Have fun, folks. That’s what it’s here for.

First, Gary Oldman (Fifth Element, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) is great in The Unborn, but it’s my opinion that he’s great in everything. Odette Yustman (Cloverfield) is gorgeous and turned in a believable performance as did the also gorgeous Cam Gigandet (Twilight, Never Back Down). No one’s gonna win any awards for The Unborn, but the performances were strong and there were some good scares. Once again, the dreaded PG-13 rating has robbed us of any real decent gore, but again, sometimes implied gore is more fun.

Quick Review: The Unborn isn’t a gem, but it is entertaining. Worth at least a watch even if you don’t go back for seconds.

The Unborn

I had only mild curiosity in seeing it in the first place. Chase Crawford and AnnaLynn McCord aren’t exactly big draws for me, but I said to myself, ‘Slasherella, that’s just not fair of you. Give it a chance.’ So when it showed up in the house I put it in. Why not? I got what I expected. A mildly entertaining little film that didn’t even have good gore on its side. That said, I couldn’t look away. I wanted to. I really did, but it grabbed my attention and kept it to the end.

Was it good? Not really. Was it unique? Far from it. Was it entertaining? I suppose. Was it at least bloody? Sadly, not really. But I watched it all the same. I guess somewhere in the dark recesses of my mind, on some level, I must’ve liked it. Maybe you will too.

Quick Review: The movie has precious little going for it, but it had some strange hold over me. I blame magic or maybe subliminal messages. Either that or Annalynne McCord and Chase Crawford aren’t nearly as objectionable as I first thought. No… it was magic.

Haunting of Molly Hartley

It would’ve been easy for Wan and Whannell to produce a Saw clone after the success of the first movie and while the theme of creepy dolls is carried on in Dead Silence, don’t watch it excepting another Saw sequel. It’s very unique in that it doesn’t rely as much on the gore (although there are some especially gory scenes) but focuses more on creating genuinely scary villains and a creepy atmosphere.

Quick Review: Dead Silence succeeds on nearly every level. Definitely a must see slasher film.

Dead Silence (Unrated Widescreen Edition)

Rogue is suspenseful and really succeeds most because of the decision to keep the croc hidden for most of the movie. We see glimpses of what’s lurking in the water, but by keeping it out of sight for the most part, the viewer is allowed to use their imagination.

Of course Rogue is doomed to be compared to Jaws and Lake Placid and in all honesty, it doesn’t fair well in either case, but on its own, Rogue is a great film. Watch it without preconceptions and you won’t be disappointed.

Quick Review: Entertaining watch with cute girls in khaki shorts and enough suspense to keep your attention. Not a must see, but worth checking out.

Rogue [Blu-ray]

The thing about 30 Days of Night is that if you let go of the fact that vampires aren’t real, it’s a very believable movie. The cast, led by Josh Hartnett, does an amazing job of convincing you they’re scared for their lives and horrified by what they’re witnessing.

The cheese-factor is surprisingly low for a vampire movie and is without the typical attempts at humor from a wise-cracking hero which seem to have become a staple in vampire movies. The vampires themselves aren’t completely original, but are truly frightening and actually behave like the creatures they are instead of humans with pointy teeth and a thirst for blood.

Quick Review: There were few negative reviews for 30 Days of Night, but I have a suspicion those were mostly from people that weren’t fans of horror movies. This is a vampire movie the way vampires movies are meant to be – bloody and scary.
